4 Reasons to Always Pack a
Scarf When Travelling

4 reasons to always pack a scarf when travelling - Shimena

There's one thing I always pack.

No matter where I'm going.

A scarf. Every single time. And once you read this, you'll never leave home without one either.

I've travelled a lot over the years - from South Africa to Scotland, cruise ships to country markets, city breaks to beach holidays. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that a good scarf isn't just an accessory. It's one of the most useful things you can pack.

Not convinced? Here are my 4 reasons why a Shimena scarf deserves a permanent spot in your travel bag.

Reason 01 - The Plane Problem

01

Planes are absolutely freezing

You know that moment when the air conditioning kicks in at 35,000 feet and suddenly you're wearing a T-shirt in what feels like a wind tunnel? A scarf is the perfect solution. Lightweight enough to pack into a handbag, warm enough to actually make a difference.

My pashminas in particular are brilliant for this. Buttery soft, large enough to use as a wrap, and they squish down to almost nothing in your bag. I never board a plane without one.

Reason 02 - Sacred Spaces

02

Temples, mosques and sacred sites require covered shoulders

If you're travelling anywhere in Europe, Asia, the Middle East or beyond, you'll almost certainly encounter places of worship that require covered shoulders or heads. A lightweight scarf tucked into your bag means you're never caught out - and you can slip it on and off in seconds without missing a beat.

Our lightweight scarves are perfect for this. Thin enough to barely notice in your bag, but beautiful enough to feel like a deliberate outfit choice rather than a rushed afterthought.

Reason 03 - The Versatility Factor

03

One scarf does the work of many things

When you're travelling, every item in your bag needs to earn its place. A scarf earns it ten times over. Here are just some of the ways I've used mine on my travels...

One Scarf, Endless Uses ✨

Wrap over shoulders on a chilly evening
Beach towel that doesn't weigh a ton
Pillow on long train or car journeys
Head/ shoulder covering at sacred sites
Sarong to transform an outfit
Changing room for the kids - just hold up around them!
Picnic blanket for impromptu lunches
Sun protection for your shoulders

Reason 04 - Pack Light, Look Great

04

A scarf transforms the same outfit into something completely different

Travelling light (like I always do) means repeating outfits. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that - as long as you have a few accessories that make the same jeans-and-top combination look entirely different each time.

A bold Shimena scarf can take a simple outfit from daytime sightseeing to an evening dinner without changing a thing. Different scarf, different look, same suitcase. It's one of the smartest packing tricks there is.

The Swiss Army Knife of Travel Fashion

Lightweight, versatile, beautiful and practical - a Shimena scarf earns its place in your travel bag every single time. Once you start packing one, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Which Shimena Scarf Should You Pack?

For travel, I always recommend our lightweight scarves - they're thin enough to scrunch into a handbag pocket but large enough to use as a proper wrap. If you're going somewhere that gets cool in the evenings, Shimena pashminas are brilliant - they're warm without being bulky and look gorgeous dressed up or down.

And the prints? Bold and beautiful - the kind of thing that sparks conversations at airports, on beaches and in hotel lobbies. Which, (shock horror I am a blether) is one of my favourite things about them.

Happy travels! 💛
