Hi, I’m Maura, the scarf-obsessed, Portobello born founder of the Scarf Shop called Shimena, now based in the beautiful town of Hawick in the Scottish Borders.


Shimena started way back in 2017, not in Scotland, but at markets under the South African sun in Cape Town. At the time, I had two young kids and a big desire to work flexibly while still doing something creative and stylish.

So I decided to turn my love for unique accessories into a business that helps people feel fab, no matter their size, shape, or season.

After all, a scarf will always fit ... and if it can spark a compliment or even just start a conversation? Even better!


Originally from Edinburgh, I met my South African husband while we were working on cruise ships (yes, really!) and life has been a colourful adventure ever since.

These days, we have 3 kids, and I focus on sourcing good quality, affordable scarves that are a little bit quirky, a little bit bold, and always wearable.

I love helping people find the scarf that lifts their mood, finishes their outfit, or just makes them smile when they catch themselves in the mirror.

What’s next for Shimena? I’m hoping to develop into hats, gloves, and maybe even fashion clothing - but always with that same feel-good, fun-loving energy.
